Guintoli ends Guadix test fastest
Crescent Suzuki's Sylvain Guintoli rounded out the final day of Spanish testing at Guadix today (Wednesday) by setting the fastest time on track and took his total number of laps over the three days to 350.
Posting a best lap time of 1m13.00s on his 2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000, Guintoli ran consistently fast times for much of the test, encouragingly setting his fastest time during a race simulation on the new Pirelli SC1 tyre that will be used in this season's championship.
Guintoli said: "What a great way to end the Spanish testing. The only thing that really stopped us going faster was the track temperature and in reality we didn't have to make any huge changes over our Almeria set-up either. The quickest lap time is great, but I'm more encouraged by the consistent times we set in the race simulation tests. I'm more eager than ever to get my championship campaign started now."
Team Manager Jack Valentine concluded: "Once again I'm very pleased with how the test has gone. The weather in both recent outings hampered our progress a little, but Guadix allowed us to get everything covered and concentrate on longer race-length stints. Sylvain's times were clearly impressive, but it's how he strings so many consistently fast laps together that impresses me the most. The bike has been amazingly dialled-in from the beginning, and although we've tested all possible configurations, our race set-up has remained very similar throughout. Overall, we're all very pleased with the progress made in the Spanish tests, and can't wait to get to Brands Hatch for the first race now."
